7th Annual National Night Out.
The food was a big hit again this year featuring Applebee's ribs and coleslaw. We also served hot dogs, cookies, apples, bananas. And lots of water. Due to the heat we handed out nearly 500 bottles of water.
Sheriff Roberts stopped by to enjoy the party.
Here Roy Burge is accepting an award for his personal service the the neighborhood. Roy has worked for more than 10 years removing the Tree of Heaven from properties in the Overland Park. The Tree of Heaven, also called the Asian Tree, is an evasive, non indigenous tree. Roy has worked with property owners, sometimes at his own expense, to remove this tree.
The Coalition is proud to recognize the Clackamas County District Attorney's office for many years of outstanding service to Overland Park. Recognition of the DA's office leadership in crime prevention is long over due. Accepting the award is ADA Dave Paul who we recognized two years ago for his work in Overland Park.
Each year the Coalition recognizes a County employee that has delivered outstanding service to Overland Park. this years award went to Phyllis Bergin of Clackamas County Social Services. Phyllis works in the Overland Park Community Court. She is the hardest working person in the court. Since the court was started more than three years ago, she consistently provides outstanding service to the clients in the court. She has changed lives and changed our community for the better. Congratulations.
Our very own State Representative, Dave Hunt, paid us a visit. He helped us cook the ribs and later said a few kind words about the work the Coalition is doing in the neighborhood.
Giggles the Clown returned again this year for face painting. This always a hit with the kids.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Posse attended again this year. I understand the horses enjoyed a few apples.
Here is one of the Sheriff's office river boats.
Parks and Rec. was on hand with crafts for the kids. Special thanks to Parks for providing us with a great park to hold this event in.
Special thanks to the many sponsors for their generous donations.
